Ikpeazu blames hot water for bad Abia roads
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has blamed the deplorable state of the roads in Abia on the activities of Abians who dispose of hot water used to defeather chickens on the roads.
“The attention of the contractor has been drawn to that road. But again it goes back to the behaviour of the people. If you go to Milverton by 10:00 p.m. you will be shocked.
“People on Faulks Road, every Sunday in the morning, will boil water beyond one hundred degrees centigrade, that water they use to defeather birds and chickens. They pour that water on asphalt. It baffles me,” Mr Ikpeazu said.
The governor made this statement during a radio interview, when he was asked why some of the newly constructed roads in the state appear not to be durable.
Mr Ikpeazu was previously criticised by his predecessor, Orji Kalu, for performing poorly on road constructions across the state, especially in business hotspots.
“When I was Governor, I built the road and maintained it. Ever since I left, there has been no new investment on the road despite being one of the busiest roads in Abia,” Mr Kalu wrote in a Facebook post.
Several roads across the state, said to have been newly constructed by the Ikpeazu administration since 2015, have been described as needing urgent repairs.
