VP Osinbajo leaves Nigeria for ECOWAS talks on Burkina Faso, Guinea, Mali coups
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is heading to Ghana for an Extraordinary Summit of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.
The regional bloc will discuss the political situation in Burkina Faso, Mali and Guinea.
The three nations are under military control, a wave that started in August 2020.
Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo will chair the parley to review the report of the ECOWAS delegation.
The team travelled to Ouagadougou, met the coup leaders in Burkina Faso that detained President Roch Kabore.
ECOWAS is considering imposing additional sanctions after the country was suspended the last week.
Osinbajo is accompanied by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Zubairu Dada; the Presidential Adviser on Economic Matters, Adeyemi Dipeolu; a diplomat, and others.
The VP is expected back in Abuja later on Thursday.
