NFL Honors: Tom Brady, the forgotten man at season awards show

After Tom Brady‘s retirement after 22 seasons in the NFL, 20 of them with the New England Patriots and his last two with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, it was expected that after a great final campaign that effort would be recognized by the NFL with some of the important awards during the NFL Honors held this Thursday at the Youtube Theater in Inglewood, California.

However, Brady was not chosen either as Most Valuable Player or Offensive Player of the Year, being in both categories as a finalist, but not even close to the majority of the vote that in the first award went to Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and in the second recognition obtained by Los Angeles Rams receiver Cooper Kupp.

The only award Brady took home was shared with Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor and was the FedEx Air and Ground Players of the Year.

In the voting for MVP, Brady took 10 of the 50 votes, trailing Rodgers with 39 and Kupp took the remaining one.

For Offensive Player of the Year, Brady got only three votes, the winner was Kupp with 35, Taylor got 10 and Rodgers took two.

Rodgers surpassed Brady in MVPs

Brady is the most Super Bowl winners in NFL history with seven Vince Lombardi Trophies, however, when it comes to AP MVP awards, the legendary quarterback has only won the award three times (2007, 2010 and 2017) and was surpassed by Rodgers who now has four (2011, 2014, 2020 and 2021).

The leader in this category is Peyton Manning with five (2003, 2004, 2008, 2009 and 2013).

Brady and the Buccaneers were eliminated by the Los Angeles Rams in the Divisional Round, thus frustrating their chances of repeating as Super Bowl champions.
