The release was described as ” as a triumph of truth over darkness in Yoruba Land.”

It was unclear under what terms Mr Igboho was released. He was arrested in Cotonou in July 2021 over allegations of travelling with forged passports. He denied the charges, saying the Nigerian government instigated his detention to punish him for his separatist activities in Nigeria.
