The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it has not received the certified copy of the Federal High Court Abuja judgment that ordered the sack of Ebonyi State governor, Dave Umahi, and his deputy, Kelechi Igwe.
CityNews Nigeria reports that INEC National Commissioner, Festus Okoye, said this in an interview with Channels Television on Thursday.
CityNews Nigeria recalls a Federal High Court, Abuja, presided over by Justice Inyang Ekwo, on Tuesday, ordered Governor Umahi to vacate office after his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2020.
Fifteen Ebonyi State lawmakers, who defected from the PDP to the APC were also affected by the judgement.
Meanwhile, Umahi insists he remains the governor of the state and will not vacate office for anyone.
It is understood that the PDP has sent names of the individuals they want to replace Governor Umahi to INEC. INEC confirmed receipt of the names from the party.
