United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Nigeria has disowned the donation campaign of Opeyemi Falegan, estranged husband of Nollywood actress, Nkechi Blessing.
Mr Falegan had solicited donations for children in war torn Ukraine from his 100,000 instagram followers through his personal Access Bank account. He claimed his foundation was able to gather 61 pounds for Ukrainian children affected by the Russian invasion of February 24.
However, UNICEF has distanced their organisation from Mr Falegan and his foundation, describing it as a scam while urging citizens not to fall victims.
“UNICEF Nigeria is aware of a fictitious donation drive to raise funds for UNICEF. Please be aware that all legitimate campaigns for donations are hosted on the UNICEF website www.unicef.org unverified social media pages. Do not fall victim to the scam!” warned UNICEF on its verified instagram page.
Reacting to UNICEF’s callout, Mr Falegan swiftly deactivated the comment section of his instagram page to fend off critics and trolls.
Prior to this, Mr Falegan and his Nollywood lover, Blessing, have been engaging in an embarrassing war of words over their separation on social media.
The actress had accused him of fraud, paedophilia among other despicable offences.
She alleged her ex-lover was a gigolo who depended on money made from her acting and influencing gigs to survive, since he had no job.
Blessing also claimed Mr Falegan begs his rich friends for the money he uses for giveaways on his instagram page, in order to keep up appearance.
