Breaking: Finally, Sanwo-Olu Gets Second Term Approval From GAC
Lagos State Governance Advisory Council on Monday has supported the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the second term in office.
The seal of approval came in at a meeting this afternoon at the State House, Marina.
The GAC is the highest decision-making organ of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos led by the National Leader and presidential hopeful, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
With the APC governorship election primaries slated for May 27, the speculation on whether Sanwo-Olu will get a second term has become rife among the business and political elites in the state, especially members of the APC.
A GAC member, who confirmed the development to Daily Trust, said members were unanimous that Sanwo-Olu had done well to deserve a second term.
“Unlike when there was a controversy and division during the tenure of Governor Babatunde Fashola, Sanwo-Olu was unanimously endorsed by all GAC members and he had been asked to start preparations for his re-election,” the source said.
Governor Sanwo-Olu has not picked his nomination forms for the election apparently waiting for the official endorsement of the party chieftains.
It would be recalled that his predecessor, Mr Akinwumi Ambode failed to secure a second term in office because he fell out of favour with the party structure and GAC members despite the popular sentiments that he performed very well enough in office to deserve a second term.
