The chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu has said sensitive election materials will no longer be kept at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

CityNews Nigeria reports that Yakubu stated this on Saturday at an election dialogue, ‘The Electorate’, organised by Enough is Enough (EiE).

While revealing that materials will no longer be “routed” through the CBN, the INEC chairman said the electoral body has never had an issue with the CBN since the partnership started.

He, however, stated that due to “current circumstances”, an alternative will be found.

According to Yakubu, the new measures would be adopted as early as the June 16 governorship election in Ekiti state.

CityNews Nigeria  reports that there have been calls for INEC to stop its collaboration with the apex banks.

The calls came after moves by the CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele, to join the race for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket.

Recall that Emefiele had also dragged the federal government to court to stop his sacking as the head of the apex bank.
