Nigerians React As Ekweremadu, Wife By Arrested By UK Police For Alleged Organ Trafficking
Reactions have trailed the reports on Thursday of the arrest of two prominent Nigerians charged by the Metropolitan Police with conspiring to bring a child to the UK in order to harvest organs.
In a statement on Thursday, the Metropolitan Police confirmed that the pair conspired to facilitate the travel of a child to the county in order to harvest the minor’s organ.
According to the police, the pair have been charged to court following an investigation by its special crime team.
The police added that the investigation was launched after detectives were alerted to potential offences under modern slavery legislation in May 2022.
It, however, added that the child has been taken into protective custody.
Following the disclosure, Nigerians have taken to the micro-blogging site, Twitter to share their views about the development.
While some expressed shock, others said nothing can be put past Nigerian politicians and called for a greater investigation, pointing out that more sordid details may be exposed by investigating the matter.
Others who expressed their views also linked it with the killings and other crimes currently prevalent in the southeast while some others said it is a repercussion for his verbal attack against Peter Obi.
