In exactly two months, the Emmys will dole out trophies to the best in show(s). And today, a critical part of that process was revealed: the invite list.
It was a shiny morning for HBO drama Succession, which led all series with 25 nominations, and the second-most nominated drama was fellow HBO series Euphoria. On the comedy side, Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso notched 20 nominations, followed by HBO Max’s Hacks and Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building, with 17 nods apiece. And HBO’s The White Lotus dominated the Limited Series categories with 20 nominations, with Hulu’s Dopesick picking up 14 nods. While Netflix’s Ozark received 13 nominations for its final season, fellow departing series This Is Us and black-ish had a not-so-sparkly day, with the former only scoring a music nod and the latter getting one each in hairstyling and costuming.
Actors enjoying multiple nominations include: Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary), Julia Garner (Ozark, Inventing Anna), Jason Bateman (Ozark), Zendaya (Euphoria), Steve Martin (Only Murders in the Building), Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria, The White Lotus), Rhea Seehorn (finally! Better Call Saul, Cooper’s Bar), Harriet Walter (Succession, Ted Lasso), Jerrod Carmichael (Saturday Night Live, Jerrod Carmichael: Rothaniel), Amy Poehler (Making It, Lucy and Desi), and Nicole Byer (Nailed It!, Nicole Byer: BBW (Big Beautiful Weirdo)). Bill Hader may have an especially busy Emmy night, as he earned recognition for acting, writing, and directing on Barry as well as for his guest turn on Curb Your Enthusiasm.
J.B. Smoove and Melissa Fumero announced the nominations for the 74th annual Emmy Awards.
One significant change this year for the Emmy Awards was that the length of a show does not determine whether it will compete as a comedy or a drama; producers can make that choice for themselves, subject to review by a Television Academy industry panel. (All programs fewer than 20 minutes in length will compete in short-form categories.)
Next question from you: When can I find out who wins? The Emmy Awards will air Monday, Sept. 12 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on NBC, and will be available to stream live and on demand on Peacock.
