Seven people have been confirmed dead after some unknown gunmen opened fire on residents of Orogwe community, Owerri West Local Government Area (LGA) of Imo State.
CityNews Nigeria learned that the gunmen attack on Monday night was in ‘retaliation’ to an earlier seizure of a youth of the community by Ebubeagu operatives. One of the victims was reportedly beheaded.
Other victims of the gun attack have been rushed to the Emergency Unit of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri, Imo state capital.
Trouble started after security operatives suspected to be members of Ebubeagu security outfit stormed the village and whisked a youth away.
Some gunmen in retaliation invaded the community and began shooting sporadically. In the process, seven people were killed.
This newspaper learned that security operatives visited the hospital on Tuesday to check on those receiving treatment for gunshot wounds.
The community has been deserted on Tuesday as Ebubeagu operatives were allegedly in the community arresting young people.
