”Buhari didn’t give me 2 weeks ultimatum to resolve ASUU strike” – Adamu

The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, on Thursday, denied receiving an order from President Muhammadu Buhari to resolve the protracted strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in two weeks.

Recall that several Nigerian newspapers had reported on July 19 that President Buhari directed Adamu to resolve the prolonged strike embarked upon by ASUU within fourteen days and report back to him.

The supposed ultimatum is four weeks old and when asked about the update, Adamu told State House Correspondents in Abuja that Buhari instead told him to resolve the issues “within the shortest possible time”.

ASUU has been on strike since February 14, with hopes of resumption dashed for Nigerian students many times as the lecturers have refused to resume over what they described as the failure of the Federal Government to honour the agreement it had with them.
