Former teammates Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso have had another F1 feud, this time colliding during the opening lap of the Belgian Grand Prix.

That saw Alonso lose positions and Hamilton forced to retire, also provoking an angry rant from the Spaniard.

The Alpine man labelled Hamilton “an idiot” and the Englishman was asked about this and the crash afterwards.

Looking back at the footage, he was in my blind spot and I didn’t leave him enough space today,” Hamilton said, assuming the blame for the coming together.

“I’m just so sorry to the team.

“It doesn’t really matter what he said. I don’t care. Like I said, it was my fault, I couldn’t see him.

“I don’t really have a response to it. I know that’s how things feel in the heat the moment.

“But it’s nice to know how he feels about me in a way, better that it’s out in the open, how he feels.

“Like I said, it wasn’t intentional and I take responsibility for it. That’s what adults do.”

Alonso’s clarification of his “idiot” Hamilton comments

“What an idiot, closing the door from the outside,” was what Alonso said on team radio in the heat of the moment.

“We had a mega start but this guy only knows how to drive and start in first.”

The Spaniard then waved his finger at Hamilton during the safety car, as the Mercedes man stood at the side of the road.

Later, though, after finishing fifth and cooling down, Alonso clarified his comments about his former McLaren teammate.

“I was frustrated in that moment for sure,” he said.

“Every time we start in the first row or second row or we are fighting top two, top three, there is something going on.
