As the intra-party crisis of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, goes unabated, disaffected Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has said he would flog his political enemies ‘pepperly’ in the 2023 general elections.
He said he would never leave anything for God.
Wike declared this in reaction to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s advice for him to leave all the perceived political wrongs against him for God while in a State function in Umuahia, capital of Abia State.
It would be recalled that Wike has been at loggerheads with the PDP national leadership after his failed presidential ambition.
He had contested the PDP presidential ticket but lost to the former vice president, Atiku Abubakar who is now the party’s presidential candidate.
But the last straw that breaks the camel’s back was Atiku’s unilateral choice of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate in disregard to the recommendation of Wike as running mate by the Special PDP selection committee.
With the ensuing controversy and failed attempts for reconciliation, the disagreement has been threatening the unity of the PDP ahead of the general elections slated for February next year.
Wike has stated his demands for reconciliation, among which is the removal of the national chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu, but this looks difficult for compliance.
It was on this premise that Wike has refused to shift grounds and insisted, “God has given me what it takes for me to crush my enemies, I’m going to flog them pepperly.”
