1. The Federal Government has suspended the proposed excise duty on telecommunication services. Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, announced this during the inaugural meeting of the Presidential Committee on Excise Duty for the Digital Economy Sector.

2. The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) in nine Northern States has embarked on three days withdrawal of services at depots. The warning strike is over non-payment of their bridging claims amounting to N70 billion.

3. The current wave of insecurity is the greatest challenge to the peace and security of Nigeria since the civil war, according to the Federal Government. The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said this during a joint security conference in Abuja on Monday.

4. The 44 worshippers abducted from a mosque in Zamfara community last Friday have been subjected to physical labour on armed men’s farmlands. Residents revealed that the bandits had called to tell relatives that the captives were with them and working on their millet and sorghum plantations but had yet to demand ransom.

5. The Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Idris Salako yesterday resigned. Gbenga Omotoso, the Commissioner for Information made the announcement in a statement on Monday. Salako leaves the position after multiple building collapses in Nigeria’s commercial hub in the last few years.

6. The Christian Association of Nigeria on Monday talked tough on the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress, insisting that its opposition to the ticket remained unchanged. It also said it had not reached an agreement with the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.

Suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, on Monday, said the allegation by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, linking him to the ownership of 14 assets, including shopping mall, residential estate, polo playground, lands and farmland, was untrue. Kyari in a statement by his lawyer, Hamza Dan Tani, said the reports were orchestrated by the NDLEA to further tarnish his image.

8. Men of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two women for allegedly operating a baby factory in Agbado, in the Ifo Local Government Area of the State. The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the development in a statement on Monday, said the suspects, Christiana Iyama and Margaret Ogwu, were arrested on August 27, 2022, following information received by the police.

9. A commercial bus driver, Salvation Harry, has been killed by gunmen who ambushed him and his passengers around the Abonema/Degema/EmuohaEmuoha/Kalabari area of the East-West Road in Rivers State. After killing the driver, who was conveying his passengers from the Mile One Park in the Diobu axis of Port Harcourt, to Buguma, the gunmen also abducted eight passengers.

10. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) says its members remained resolute to get what public universities need from the Federal Government to survive and compete globally. Prof. Ayo Akinwole, the Chairman of ASUU, University of Ibadan chapter, made the assertion on Monday in Ibadan.
