The Nigerian-born academic had also accused the now-late monarch of sponsoring the “genocide” that led to her family being displaced.

Anya, whose father is Igbo, did not explain the exact context of her comment concerning what she referred to as “sponsored the genocide that massacred and displaced half my family”.

However, her post may be connected to the Nigerian-Biafran civil war of 1967 to 1970.

Anya’s tweets have received lots of mixed reactions on social media.

“It is not in our culture in Igboland to speak evil about the dead especially when the person is no longer there to defend himself or herself. This is despicable and unknown in Igbo setting, culture and tradition,” Igbokwe said via Facebook.

“This is not our culture, this is not our tradition, this is not the way we were brought up.

“A bunch of untrained, uncivilized and mannerless people from Igboland are making us look like a generation of haters and bigots and good and wonderful people from Igbo are keeping mute.

“It is time to reclaim Igboland and change the narrative. If you tell a lie a thousand times people will take it as the truth.”
