2023 Election: Peter Obi Apologizes To Labour Party Leadership
The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has made a passionate apology to the leadership of his party ahead of the 2023 election and six days to the official campaign.
CityNews reports that the former governor of Anambra, Peter Obi, who many argue has raised the party from oblivion to limelight and a contending force in the 2023 general election said the ASUU strike was responsible for his inability to fly to Abuja for the strategic session in preparation for the campaign flag off.
Recall that students under the umbrella of National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS), on Monday, 20 September shut down airports in the country, including Lagos and Abuja airports.
NANS are demanding resolution and immediate call off of the seven months strike embarked by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities to press down their demands for better welfare for university teachers.
The grounding of the airports, Peter Obi stated was responsible for his absence from the strategic meeting of the party.
In a statement, Peter Obi apologized, The Nigeria Labour Party NWC, State Chairmen and Senatorial candidates, I apologize for not being with you physically. We had agreed that we needed to hold this strategy session before we commence the electoral campaigns in about a week.”
He disclosed further, “Due to the sympathy I have for ASUU and the strike that has kept our children out of school for the past seven months, I could not fly to Abuja.
“ASUU strike and the many other problems confronting Nigeria, must compel us to reassert or resolve to ensure that there is a leadership change in Nigeria come 2023. Even though the Labour Party is by far smaller than the other major parties, our party now carry the burden of salvaging Nigeria on her shoulders.”
The youths of Nigeria’s choice reassured, “My personal commitment to that Mission is total. I urge you to do what you can personally and collectively; to make all the necessary sacrifices to ensure that we win the 2023 general elections.
“We in LP are one family now; we will remain so during the campaign and after we win the elections. I assure you that no one will be left behind.”
