Barcelona to file complaint to UEFA over officiating in Inter loss
Barcelona plans to file a formal grievance with UEFA about the refereeing in their Champions League match against Inter.
In a match marked by contentious official calls, the Catalan team fell to their Italian opponents by a score of 1-0.
After Ansu Fati’s alleged handball had disallowed Pedri’s equaliser, Denzel Dumfries handled the ball in the Inter penalty area, but his side was not awarded a penalty.
They also felt that Hakan Calhanoglu ought to have been dismissed for a foul on Sergio Busquets, despite having another penalty claim waved away when Robert Lewandowski was pushed in the box.
After the game, Xavi made it clear how he felt, calling the choices made “outrageous” and “pissed off.”
Now, according to AS, his club is taking the situation a step further by putting together a formal complaint that will be forwarded to the governing body.
Barcelona feels that they were also wrongfully denied a penalty in that game, and they think that Van Boekel’s making the same calls in both matches may not have been a coincidence at all.
They dropped to third place in the group and will now face Inter at Camp Nou the following Wednesday.
