Spokesman of the All Progressives Congress (APC’s) Presidential Campaign Council, Festus Keyamo has mocked the opposition parties, saying “instead of selling their candidates”, they were waiting for Bola Tinubu, presidential flag-bearer of the ruling party for the 2023 election, to return to Nigeria before they begin their campaigns.
CITYNEWS NIGERIA had reported that Tinubu arrived in Abuja on Thursday evening after days in the United Kingdom (UK).
Prior to his arrival, speculations have been rife that the APC presidential flag-bearer is sick and receiving treatment in London. The speculations were reshared by proponents of Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidates of the Labour Party and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) respectively.
Some members of the APC campaign council have since refuted such claims, stating that their principal is hale and hearty with Tinubu himself releasing videos confirming his healthy state.
“The short absence of @officialABAT was so felt on the political terrain that even the opposition parties were also waiting for him to come to begin their campaigns! Because instead of selling their candidates, their issue has been ‘where is BAT?!’ Ok, he’s here. They can begin,” Keyamo wrote on his verified Twitter handle on Thursday.
This newspaper reports that the PDP will begin its presidential campaign next week Monday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital. The APC is also expected to flag off its presidential campaign same date, albeit in Abuja.
For the Labour Party, it said it will announce a date soon.
