Terrorism: Court Strikes Out Nnamdi Kanu’s Suit Against CJ
Justice Inyang Ekwo of a Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday struck out a suit instituted by the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu against the Chief Judge of the FHC on his secret trial for alleged terrorism.
The suit which had the Chief Judge, Justice John Tsoho as sole defendant was thrown out following its dramatic withdrawal by Kanu.
The IPOB leader had dragged the Chief Judge before the court following the adoption of a Practice Direction which directed trial of terrorism-related charges to be conducted in camera.
His grouse was that the secret trial policy implemented shortly after the Federal Government slammed 15-count treasonable felony charges against him constituted an infringement of his fundamental rights to fair trial.
When the hearing was to commence on Friday, Kanu through his lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor announced that he was no longer interested in continuing with the suit.
Ejiofor subsequently applied that the matter be struck out in line with the wish of Kanu.
Ejiofor told Journalists that the action was withdrawn following the discovery that the secret trial of terrorism cases adopted during Kanu’s prosecution was not targeted at his client.
