Ibrahim Babangida Sent Letter Bomb To Dele Giwa – Sowore
The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore has said he plans to reopen the case of a journalist, Dele Giwa, who was murdered in Ikeja, Lagos on October 19, 1986.
CityNews Nigeria reports that Giwa was the editor and founder of Newswatch magazine.
Giwa was killed by a parcel bomb in his home at Ikeja, Lagos, while in his study on Sunday October 19, 1986. The assassination occurred two days after he had been interviewed by State Security Service (SSS) officials.
Giwa had been invited by the SSS to their headquarters for the first time on September 19, 1986 after writing an article in which he described the newly introduced Second-Tier Foreign Exchange Market (SFEM) as “God’s experiment” and suggested that if SFEM failed, the people would stone their leaders in the streets.
Sowore, on Wednesday, took to Twitter to make a memorial post on the deceased journalist.
He shared pictures of the late journalist alongside a flyer that read, “Who killed Dele Giwa?”
The AAC flag bearer alleged that the former military President, Ibrahim Babangida, was part of the plot to assassinate Giwa.
He went on to state that the case would be reopened.
“36 years ago, ex-military dictator, Ibrahim Babangida, plotted with Halilu Akilu (Ex-Director of National Intelligence) and Col A.K Togun (now deceased) to send a letter bomb that assassinated foremost investigative journalist, Dele Giwa, in his house in Ikeja. We’ll reopen the case!” Sowore posted.
