Breaking: #Rishi Sunak reshuffle: Hunt remains chancellor; Cleverly stays as foreign secretary, Raab is deputy PM

Rishi Sunak has been formally appointed the as new UK Prime Minister.

Sunak within the coming hours and faces an uphill battle of uniting a fractured party behind him and dragging Britain out of a cost of living crisis and spiralling inflation.

  4. Earlier Jacob Rees-Mogg, one of Boris Johnson’s most loyal supporters, resigned as business secretary while Brandon Lewis stepped down as justice secretary
  5. Sunak officially became UK prime minister earlier after meeting King Charles at Buckingham Palace
  6. In his first speech outside No 10, he said the UK was facing a “profound economic crisis”
  7. And he said he had been chosen as the new Tory leader to fix some of Liz Truss’s mistakes
  8. In a short farewell speech earlier, Liz Truss defended her legacy of trying to push through tax cuts and said leaders needed to be bold
