CityNews recalls that Trump was banned from using Twitter in January 2021 after the microblogging platform owners described his posts as inciting.
Twitter, however, would now be controlled by new hands following Elon Musk’s acquisition of the bird app on Thursday, a development that prompted Trump’s comment about the former holder of the widely patronized social media platform.
Musk is understood to have splashed $44 billion to buy Twitter, a lingering bid that was concluded late Thursday after months of uncertainty and speculation.
“I am very happy that Twitter is now in sane hands and will no longer be run by Radical Left Lunatics and Maniacs that truly hate our country,” Trump said on his own Truth Social platform on Friday in reaction to the latest ownership of the bird app.
CityNews understands that Musk had indicated earlier he would lift Trump’s Twitter ban, imposed in the wake of the 2021 assault on the US Capitol that the Republican leader is accused of inciting.
Trump, however, has not mentioned if he intended to make a comeback on the microblogging platform. Trump during an interview earlier today told the cable network he liked Musk and wished him luck.
