The rich also cry is the apt saying that best descibes the situation which the Chairman of SIFAX Group, Otunba Taiwo Afolabi just found himself as the much-awaited wedding ceremony between his  daughter of Mariam Abiola and Qudus Badmus has been cancelled because Otunba Taiwo Afolabi couldn’t use his power and influence to secure UAE visa for his son-in-law and his parents.

CityNews Nigeria can authouritatively inform you that as you read this, many of the guests who are people of ‘timber and calibre’ in Nigeria are ‘stranded’ in Dubai as the son-in-law of Afolabi and his parents were denied visa by UAE authourities and Kenny couldn’t make it to his own wedding,ditto his mum and dad.

CityNews Nigeria recalls that the engagement ceremony between Helen and Qudus took place at the Marriot Hotel (owned by Otunba Taiwo Afolabi) last week and was graced by creme de la creme of the society including former President Goodluck Jonathan, Emir of Kano Aminu Ado Bayero, the Executive Governor of Lagos State,Babajide Sanwo-Olu,his deputy Dr,Obafemi Hamzat and many traditional rulers from all over the country.

CityNews learnt that the billionaire business mogul who has his hands in virtually all the sectors of the Nigerian economy and whose business interests span across the lenghth and breadth of Africa and beyond had spent a lot of money to organise the lavish white wedding in the city of Dubai,making sure everything was in place; little did he know that his influence and connections could not ‘buy’ the UAE authorities.

The whole saga is also taking an interesting turn as Otunba Afolabi’s daughter has also refused to leave the shores of Nigeria as she’s gutted about how his father failed to use his connections to secure visa for his spouse and his parents.

CityNews learnt that the poor lady has practically lost it as all the entreaties of her family members who are trying to talk her out of the messy situation is falling on deaf ears.

Mariam, the bride-to-be, is the group executive director of compliance at SIFAX Group. She is also the chief executive officer of Style Loft Box, a fashion, beauty, and lifestyle mall located in Victoria Island, Lagos. She is also a fashion designer, overseeing her brand called Mazelle Fashion and Studio.

Otunba Afolabi is also said to be very gutted and upset about the whole situation which has really dented his image amongst his billionaire friends in and outside of Nigeria. We can reliably inform you that the billionaire business mogul is currently trying to do some damage control but with no success as his friends and business associetaes are ‘not having it at all’.
