Biafra: What Buhari Govt Should Do With Nnamdi Kanu – Former Governor, Ezeife
Amid the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a former Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuemeka Ezeife, has said the Federal Government should “restore prestige to our court and justices”.
CITYNEWS NIGERIA reports that Ezeife who is the president of the Igbo Elders Consultative Forum also accused the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration of “using its power to discredit our courts and judges”.
CityNews Nigeria recalls that Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of Security Service (DSS) in Abuja since he was arrested in Kenya and brought back to Nigeria in June 2021.
The Court of Appeal had on October 13 ordered the IPOB leader’s release, having dismissed the remaining six-count charge levelled against him by the federal government.
The federal government had asked the Court of Appeal to stay the execution of the judgment discharging Kanu, pending the resolution of an appeal it filed at the Supreme Court.
“What I will say about that is that the Federal Government should restore prestige to our court and justices.
“The federal government has been using its power to discredit our courts and judges. How many people now believe in whatever the court says? I don’t want to comment on specific cases. Thank you,” Ezeife told Punch.
