CityNews reports that Iya Oniyan who was in her 70s died at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), on Tuesday which was the same day the APC held their campaign flag-off in Jos.
Her death came before an APC chieftain and a lawmaker at the Lagos House of Assembly, Sobur Olayiwola Olawale slumped and died in Jos, Plateau State.
She was reportedly battling undisclosed ailment before her demise, according to her son, Onarebu Niyi Awodogan who announced the sad news.
She was said to have gone to the hospital after her condition became critical and she died at LUTH.
The deceased has been taken to the morgue.
Her son is the Supervisory Councillor of Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Mushin.
The late Oniyan controlled a women group which normally drum campaign for the APC during election period in Lagos through dancing and grassroots mobilisation.
She was given the nickname ‘Oniyan’ because she was a pounded yam merchant and used to supply the state house Lagos pounded yam during the administration of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
