The five aggrieved PDP governors present at the meeting taking place at the Southern Sun hotel, Ikoyi, Lagos, include Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu).
Others were the former Deputy National Chairman, Olabode George; former governor of Ekiti, Ayodele Fayose; former governor of Ondo, Olusegun Mimiko; and former governor of Cross River, Donald Duke.
Also at the meeting were PDP Deputy National Chairman (South), Taofeek Arapaja, PDP National Vice Chairman, South-South, Dan Orbih, former Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adoke; Senator Sunday Onor, Senator Nafiz Suleiman, Senator Olaka Nwogu, Nene Ukeje, Senator Mao Ohabunwa, Ali Odefa, and Dotun Babayemi.
Makinde had told newsmen before the meeting proceeded behind closed doors, that the governors seeking the resignation of the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu were being backed by the leaders and elders of the party present at the meeting.
Recall that Wike and his allies have been calling for the resignation of Ayu, citing that the PDP chairman and the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, cannot come from the same region.
However, Ayu had insisted that he would not resign his position on the basis of the demands of Wike’s allies.
Owing to the crisis, Wike’s allies pulled out of the PDP presidential campaign council while vowing not to support Atiku.
