CityNews reports that despite the Federal High Court’s judgement of 22 September which nullified all primary election of the PDP in the state and the pending judgement of the Court slated for December 1 in Abuja, one of the governorship aspirants, Segun Showunmi has come out to lay claims that he is the Ogun PDP candidate.
According to him, he had studied the merits and technicalities of all the cases pending in court over the PDP governorship ticket, insisting that he remains the party’s candidate.
Showunmi said he is confidence his name would be on the ballot as the party’s gubernatorial for the 2023 election.
His claims follows a pending judgement in the legal battle on the governorship ticket of the party slated for December 1 by a Federal High Court in Abuja.
Another aspirant of the PDP in the state, Jimi Lawal, who also contested the May 25 governorship primary election, had challenged the emergence of Oladipupo Adebutu.
Lawal alleged that an unlawful and invalid delegates list was fraudulently used by PDP to conduct the election, hence he prays the court among other things, cancel the May 25 primary election and conduct a fresh one with the authentic Adhoc delegates.
However, CityNews gathered that Showunmi insisted that “I have looked at all the cases. I have studied the technicalities of those cases and I tell you absolutely that, I, Otunba Olusegun Showunmi, I am the PDP governorship candidate in Ogun State.”
He also said he has met with Adebutu recently to have talks about how they all can find a common ground to resolve the party’s crisis.
He warned his supporters against engaging other factions of the Ogun PDP in a war of words, adding that “our party is our party.”
