Alleged N-Power Fraud: D’banj Releases First Statement After His Freedom

Nigerian musician Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, popularly known as D’banj, has broken his silence after regaining freedom following his arrest over allegations of N-Power fraud.

CityNews Nigeria recalls the embattled singer’s legal counsels confirmed that he was released on bail on Friday because he made himself available for investigation.

This comes after the anti-graft agency, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) detained D’banj on Tuesday at its office over alleged N-Power fraud.

He wrote: “Global thank you to the world. I was invited on an ongoing investigation in ICPC. I have assisted the commission with all I know and I am confident in their capacity to unravel the truth. I have no business with fraud, all I do is chop life. I was released on self-recognition because nothing was seen or found on me. God bless you all my people.”

N-Power Beneficiaries Lament Over Non-Receipt Of Monthly Stipends

The ICPC reported earlier that it received numerous petitions on the diversion of N-Power funds running into billions of naira following the approval and release of such funds to the beneficiaries by President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.

The anti-graft agency said many N-Power beneficiaries had been lamenting over the non-receipt of their monthly stipends despite the government’s confirmation of releasing the funds.

“About ten persons have been invited by the ICPC over the last few months in connection with the N-Power fraud and have been granted administrative bail after their detention. Several invitations to Mr Oladipo Daniel Oyebanjo to appear before a team of investigators were ignored and not honoured.

“Mr Oyebanjo turned himself in and was taken into custody at the ICPC Headquarters on Tuesday, 6th December 2022, and is currently assisting the investigators in unravelling the circumstances of the fraud allegations by the petitioners,” ICPC spokesperson Azuka Ogugua, said in a statement on Wednesday.
