Breaking: Why I Was Arrested – Doyin Okupe Speaks On DSS Ordeal
A chieftain of the Labour Party (LP), Doyin Okupe, who was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) has spoken on the incident.
It was earlier reported that Okupe, the immediate past Director-General of the Labour Party presidential campaign organization, was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
According to the lawyer, Tolu Babaleye on Thursday morning, Okupe was on his way to London for medical treatment when he was picked up by the DSS operatives.
Babaleye added that the LP chieftain was asked to produce evidence that the Federal High Court Abuja has freed him regarding the money laundering case for which he was recently convicted and given the option of a fine.
Speaking about the incident via his Twitter handle, Okupe noted that he was arrested en route to the United Kingdom for medicals, with his passport withheld.
He added that his arrest was an error and some senior officials in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had apologized for the arrest.
He wrote: “I was arrested and detained at the MM international airport, Lagos this morning 12th Jan on my way to UK for medicals, years of my passport being with held by the FHC Abuja. I have just left the efcc office where snr officers in Lagos, and Abuja apologised to me for the error. OCCUPATIONAL Hazzard abi?”
