Prince Harry: ‘I Don’t Think they Would Have Ever Forgiven Me’ If I’d…
If you thought Prince Harry didn’t hold back in his bombshell memoir Spare, which was officially released on January 10th, then you may be interested to know that he confessed to actually leaving *so much* material out of the book – enough to make another memoir, so he says – because he feared it would permanently ruin his relationships with the royal family, in particular his father, King Charles, and his brother, the Prince of Wales. What could he have been referring to, we wonder?!
The Duke of Sussex, 38, made the confession in an interview with Bryony Gordon for The Telegraph on January 13th, saying: “There are some things that have happened, especially between me and my brother, and to some extent between me and my father, that I just don’t want the world to know. Because I don’t think they would ever forgive me.” He added, “Now you could argue that some of the stuff I’ve put in there, well, they will never forgive me anyway.”
Prince Harry teased that the finished version is only half of what he wanted to write due to the length of his first draft. “The first draft was different. It was 800 pages, and now it’s down to 400 pages,” he said. “It could have been two books, put it that way. And the hard bit was taking things out.” He also mentioned that he shared some memories with his ghostwriter, J.R. Moehringer, with no intention of seeing them published in the final version.
Prince Harry also went on to say that the material he did leave in the memoir wasn’t really intended to “trash” his family, but instead, to change the relationship between the royal family and the press. He referenced his niece and nephews, Prince William and Kate Middleton’s children Prince George, 9, Princess Charlotte, 7, and Prince Louis, 4, and mentioned that at least one of them will be a “spare,” just like he was, which “hurts” and “worries him.” He added: “This is not about trying to collapse the monarchy — this is about trying to save them from themselves.”
Prince Harry Details Physical Fight With His Brother
We can’t even begin to imagine what Prince Harry could have taken out as there are already so many jaw-dropping confessions in it! The father-of-two already shocked fans when he revealed that older brother Prince William, 40, physically attacked him back in 2019 over a disagreement about Prince Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle, 41, which resulted in him being “knocked to the floor” by his brother. In the memoir, Harry writes: “He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor. I landed on the dog’s bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me. I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet and told him to get out.”
Harry went on to say that his brother encouraged him to fight back, as they did when they were children, but Harry refused. According to the memoir, the Prince of Wales then left and came back “looking regretful, and apologized.” Harry said William later called him and said that Harry didn’t “need to tell Meg about this” but the former Suits actress found out for herself when she noticed multiple “scrapes and bruises” on his back.
Where Does Prince Harry Currently Stand With The Royal Family?
Despite telling ITV that there is a “100 percent” chance of reconciliation, as far as he is concerned, he confessed that his family have “shown absolutely no willingness to reconcile up until this point” so there is still a big question mark over Prince Harry’s current relationship with the royal family. “Forgiveness is 100 percent a possibility because I would like to get my father back,” he said on January 8th, adding, “I would like to have my brother back. At the moment, I don’t recognize them, as much as they probably don’t recognize me.”
