Breaking! PDP Postpones Atiku Presidential Campaign Rally In Rivers
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the postponement of the Atiku/Okowa presidential campaign rally in Rivers State, earlier scheduled for Saturday, February 11, 2023.
In a statement issued on Friday (today), PDP Presidential Campaign Council in the state apologised to party members and supporters for all inconveniences the reschedule might have caused them.
It revealed that the electioneering event is now rescheduled to hold on 14 February 2023 against the former date. The press statement released by the spokesperson for the Campaign Council, Dr Leloonu Nwibubasa, did not disclose if the venue has been changed or not.
Nwibubasa, however, stated that the rally will hold at 9 am on the new date and that details about the venue will be communicated to members of the public soon as possible.
The statement reads: “The PDP Presidential Campaign Council, Rivers State Chapter, hereby regret to announce the said postponement and plead that the general public, members of PDP, and the Supporters of Atiku/Okowa Presidency bear with us on the inconveniences this adjustment in date may cause you.
“Remember to keep a date with Atiku/Okowa for a better Nigeria.”
Gunmen Attack Atiku’s Campaign DG In Rivers
PDP in its latest press statement did not state why the rally in Rivers State was postponed, the development, however, may not be unconnected with the attempted assassination of the Director-General of the Atiku Abubakar presidential campaign council in Rivers, Abiye Sekibo.
CityNews Nigeria reported earlier that some unknown gunmen attempted to assassinate the PDP chieftain in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
Sekibo was reportedly attacked on Thursday night while on transit in the state. According to the former Minister of Transportation in the Olusegun Obasanjo administration, the assailants were allegedly sponsored by the state Governor, Nyesom Wike.
