Europa League: Door is open for Messi’s return to Barcelona – Xavi
Barcelona coach, Xavi Hernandez has said the door will always be open for Lionel Messi to return to the club.
Messi is yet to agree a new contract at Paris Saint-Germain, with his current deal expiring at the end of this season.
Reports in Spain this week claimed the player’s father, Jorge, met with Barca president Joan Laporta recently.
It has led to speculation that the 35-year-old could be set for a return to the LaLiga giants.
“This is his home and the door is always open.
“[Messi] is a friend and we are in permanent contact. It depends on what he wants for his future and how the club sees it.
“He is the best player in the world and the best ever. He would always fit [the team],” Xavi told a press conference ahead of their Europa League game against Manchester United on Thursday, when asked about the rumoured meeting.
