Police Issue Warning To Nigerian Politicians Ahead Of Gov’ship Polls
The Sokoto State Police Command and the Department of State Services (DSS) have issued a stern warning to Nigerian politicians not to involve both agencies in their affairs.
CityNews Nigeria reports that both security agencies in a statement issued by the state Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Gumel and the State Director of DSS, Yahaya Hassan denied their involvement in the misconstrued fact in a viral audio presently in circulation.
According to them, “The audio, which was released by the media handlers of the former governor Attahiru Bafarawa, is currently in circulation.
“In this audio, there is a portrayal that the former governor, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, refuses to sign the peace accord, which the CP and Director DSS are working on together with Bafarawa.
“For the avoidance of doubt, members of the public should note that the initiative, which is aimed at consultation with the elder Statesmen, is also expected to be led by Governor Aminu Tambuwal.”
Both agencies said their involvement in the ongoing consultations was only because they are members of the Sokoto peace and security council and not because they are politicians.
It would therefore be in the best interest of the public, according to the police and DSS, for both elder statesmen to settle their grievances without altering the mission of the ongoing consultation.
