BREAKING: Doguwa: INEC fixes new election in Majority Leader’s constituency
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday declared that there was no winner in the February 25 National Assembly election in Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency of Kano State.
CITYNEWS NIGERIA reports that the electoral body subsequently fixed a rerun election in 13 Polling Units (PUs).
This newspaper had reported that INEC removed the name of the embattled Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Ado Doguwa, from the list of Reps-elect.
The Returning Officer, Professor Ibrahim Yakasai had announced the result on February 26 at the Tudun Wada INEC office, with Doguwa the purported winner.
Yakasai said that Doguwa scored 39,732 votes to defeat his closest rival, Salisu Abdullahi of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), who polled 34,798 votes. At the time, there were reports that Prof. Yakasai made the declaration under duress.
Election-related violence were recorded in Doguwa’s Constituency after the February 25 election, prompting the police in Kano to arrest and charge the House of Representatives Majority Leader, alongside others, for criminal conspiracy, and culpable homicide. He was later released on bail.
