2023: Doyin Okupe Lists 7 Demons Of Nigeria’s Democracy
The former Director-General of the Labour Party (LP) Presidential Campaign Council, Doyin Okupe has identified seven demons afflicting Nigeria’s democracy.
Taking to his Twitter account on Monday afternoon, Okupe submitted that the demons must be dealt with before Nigeria can make any democratic progress.
He explained that unless the issues are confronted and resolved, no amount of change mantra or youth activism would change the status quo.
Okupe, a former presidential spokesperson listed the identified demons of Nigeria’s democracy as 1. Pervasive corruption. 2. Illiteracy. 3. Crippling poverty. 4. Massive youth unemployment 5. Lack of respect for Rule of Law. 6. Malleability of the Judiciary. 7. The absence of the fear of God.
He submitted that they must be addressed for progress to happen.
He wrote: ”The Problems With Nigeria’s Democracy; 1. Pervasive corruption. 2. Illiteracy. 3. Crippling poverty. 4. Massive youth unemployment 5. Lack of respect for Rule of Law. 6. Malleability of the Judiciary. 7. The absence of the fear of God.
“No amount of ‘change mantras’ in our politics, or activism of the Youth will change the status quo. We must find a way to deal with the above 7 demons and collectively pray and ask God to change our hearts towards righteousness & godliness.
“Else, we go round this unprogressive cycles endlessly.”
