Lagos 2023: I Totally Condemn Tribal Politics – Keyamo
The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, has said he totally condemns tribal politics which trailed the Lagos Governorship election.
City News reports that tribal politics became prevalent following the victory of the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Peter Obi, in Lagos State during the February 25 presidential election.
The tribal politics came more intense following the debate about the tribe of the Lagos LP governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.
Since then, there have been widespread ethnic sentiments and hate speeches, and the conversation about the true owners of Lagos.
While some Igbos have claimed that the state belongs to no one, the Yoruba people in anger are insisting that they are the true aboriginal owners of Lagos and that the easterners remain visitors.
This is coming against the backdrop of some Igbo electorates alleging that they were prevented from voting because of their tribe while others have claimed that they have suffered physical attacks from the Yorubas.
But in a tweet via his Twitter handle on Sunday, Keyamo said he is totally against tribal politics, stressing that he is a product of different regions of Nigeria.
The minister said he has never in his life written or promoted one tribe over another, even in campaigns. He added that nobody should ever rile a whole tribe in the name of politics.
He wrote: “I TOTALLY deplore tribal politics. I am a product of different regions of Nigeria. I’ve NEVER in my life written or promoted one tribe over another, even in campaigns. No one should ever rile a whole tribe & this applies to all sides – North/South/East/West in Nigeria’s politics.”
