BREAKING: Boko Haram chief bomber killed by own IED [PHOTO]
The chief bomb-maker and a high-ranking member of the Boko Haram terrorist group, Awana Gaidam, has been killed by his own Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
CITYNEWS NIGERIA reports that the 39-year-old terrorist was one of Boko Haram’s experts in making Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
Awana was reportedly responsible for planting many IED attacks on troops of Operation Hadin Kai along major highways between Maiduguri to Damboa, Bama to Pulka and Bita as well as Banki to Darajamal’s general area.
This newspaper learned that the bomb struck Gaidam’s vehicle along Njumia and Arra in Sambisa forest on Monday, killing him instantly.
Sources said that Awana had planted bombs in strategic positions to fortify his camp within Sambisa forest, but the trap would claim his life.
Since 2022, Boko Haram and its splinter, the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP), have carried out more than 90 indiscriminate attacks in Nigeria’s northeast region using IEDs.
