The development came shortly after the National Chairman of the PDP, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, announced he had stepped aside from the position.
Ayu had stepped down in compliance with a High Court order restraining him from parading himself as the party’s national chairman.
Damagum was, before his appointment, the Deputy National Chairman of the PDP.

5 – He also obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Management and a Bachelor of Arts in Education (Economics) at the University of Maiduguri in the year 1996 and 1988, respectively.
6 – He is well versed in Banking, Economy, Diplomacy and Public Sector Administration after participating in a series of seminars, workshops and conferences.
7 – Damagum also holds an Honorary Diploma and Certificate issued to him by the Governing Board of Adiri, Bucharest- Romania, Iulian Antonescu Museum (Bacau-Romania) and The Family International (Timisoara-Romania).
8 – The PDP chieftain was a Council Member of the Nigerian Shippers Council from 2002 to 2004 and National Health Insurance Scheme from 2012 to 2015.
