1. The military has again warned against plans to sabotage the handover of power to the President-elect, Bola Tinubu on May 29. The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Musa Danmadami handed down the warning on Thursday in Abuja.

2. Archbishop of the Abuja Catholic Archdiocese, John Onaiyekan, yesterday said that it “makes no sense”, to swear in President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu before the hearing of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal is concluded. His assertion generated reactions on social media on Thursday.

3. Millions of electricity consumers may be plunged into darkness in the coming weeks as the Federal Government via the Transmission Company of Nigeria and the Market Operator have begun a massive disconnection of debtor electricity distribution companies from the national grid.

4. Some yet-to-be-identified assailants have attacked a police checkpoint along the Umunze-Ihite Road, in the Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, killing three policemen on the spot. It was gathered that the gunmen invaded the location in large numbers on Thursday and immediately opened fire on the security officers manning the checkpoint, while three officers died, others escaped after a gun duel.

5. The Abia State House of Assembly, under its factional Speaker, Chukwudi Apugo, says it will soon begin a probe of public office holders in the state. The House Committee on Anti-Corruption and Public Accounts, in a statement on Thursday, said it had received a plethora of petitions alleging various offences by different elected and appointed functionaries of the state.

6. Former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, has urged aggrieved parties of the February 25 general elections to respect the sanctity of the court and humbly accept its decision in the coming days as final. Gowon made the call on Thursday in Abuja at the 15th edition of the PUNUKA Annual Lecture 2023 and symposium in honour of the late Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Chike Idigbe.

7. Suspended Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Hudu Yunusa-Ari, who is under police probe, has been granted bail. Also allowed to go home are two Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) commissioners and other officials undergoing interrogation at the Police Headquarters in connection with the Adamawa Governorship Election fiasco.

8. The International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) joined those pleading for former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice. It appealed to the Government of the United Kingdom for leniency in the sentencing of the duo, alongside their doctor, Dr. Obinna Obeta.

9. President-elect, Bola Tinubu has declared that the unity of Nigeria is non-negotiable. This is as he has vowed to make corruption in the judiciary unattractive. He stated this, yesterday, when he commissioned the Magistrates’ Court Complex in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, urging Nigerians to tolerate one another.

10. Gunmen suspected to be cultists on Wednesday shot dead a youth leader identified as Ebenezer Matthew in Abarikpo community, the Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State. Mathew is said to be the President of the Abarikpo Community in Akoh kingdom in the local government.
