Some protesters stormed the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja on Monday morning demanding the arrest of a former Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle.
The protesters who identified themselves as members of the Voice of the Voiceless, were led by their Chairman, Nasiru Ismaila Doka, CityNews learnt.
According to Daily Sun, the group is demanding the EFCC to re-open its earlier investigation into Matawalle’s tenure which could not be concluded because of the constitutional immunity clause protecting the Governor then.
Recall that Matawalle served as Governor of Zamfara State between 2019 and 2023.
Some police operatives recently raided his house and recovered some allegedly stolen vehicles. Though the vehicles were returned on a court order.
However, in a protest letter the group submitted to the EFCC today, they urged the anti-graft agency to arrest the immediate past governor over alleged misappropriation of public funds.
