1. Senate Majority Leader, Michael Bamidele, on Wednesday, said that there were no criminal charges against President Bola Tinubu in any United States court. Bamidele was called as a sole witness during the proceedings of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja. He maintained that the $460, 000 forfeiture order against the President by an American court was in respect of a civil matter.
2. The Progressive Governors’ Forum has pledged to intervene in the conflict between the ruling All Progressives Congress and the presiding leaders of the National Assembly over the choice of principal officers. The move is coming hours after the National Chairman of the APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, disowned the new appointees announced on Tuesday by Senate President, Godswill Akpabio and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.
3. The National Chairman of the Labour Party, Bar Julius Abure has said that the party has not endorsed any candidate for the Edo 2024 governorship elections. Abure also said the crisis rocking the Edo State chapter has been resolved and that the party’s door is open for everyone who has an interest in joining the party.
4. The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) says forensic analysis has confirmed that the dollar videos of ex-Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje were not doctored. Speaking at ‘A One Day Public Dialogue on Anti-Corruption Crusade in Kano’, on Wednesday, Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, Chairman of the agency, said the authenticity of the videos had been confirmed.
5. A Professor of Political Science and International Relations, Babafemi Badejo has said though former President Muhammadu Buhari failed woefully in the fight against corruption, his successor, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will be worse. Badejo stated this while delivering the first inaugural lecture of Chrisland University, Abeokuta, Ogun State, titled: “Interests.”
6. The Federal Government has blamed some technical challenges for the delay in the payment of June salary to some government workers. Director of Press, Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF), Bawa Mokwa, made this known on Wednesday.
7. There is no respite yet for electricity consumers with Distribution Companies (DisCos) still pushing ahead with their bid for Federal Government’s approval to raise the tariffs. It was learnt on Wednesday that the DisCos are billed to meet with NERC in Abuja next week.
8. The Ekiti State Government has banned the planned three-day kissing marathon to set the Guinness World Record. A group simply identified as Sugarte scheduled July 7 for the commencement of the longest world kissing marathon in a popular amusement park, in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital.
9. A pilgrim with the Lagos State contingents to Hajj, Alhaja Kuburat Sekoni, has died in Makkah. The body of the 66-year-old was seen by her roommate when she wanted to use the restroom.
10. World record holder, Tobi Amusan has emerged national champion for the fourth consecutive time at the women’s 100mH of the Nigerian Athletics Championships in Benin, clocking a time of 12.70s under drizzling rain. She was at least 10 metres ahead of her nearest competitor and this win makes it her 4th national title in a trial that will be used to select Team Nigeria for the 19th World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
