1. The National Secretary of All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Iyiola Omisore has been officially replaced with the Deputy National Secretary of the party, Festus Fuanter. Fuanter, who hails from Plateau State, officially assumed his new position as the acting national secretary on Monday.

2. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Monday evening, returned to Abuja from Nairobi, Kenya, where he participated in the fifth Mid-Year Coordination Meeting of the African Union (AU). The President landed at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

3. The Federal Government has officially confirmed the first case of anthrax in the country. A statement released by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on Monday said animals showing signs of a possible case of anthrax on a farm in Suleja, Niger State, were reported to the Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer of Nigeria on July 14, 2023.

4. Acting Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Christopher Musa and Service Chiefs yesterday restated their plans to safeguard Nigeria against internal and external aggressors. They repeated the assurance when they appeared before the House of Representatives in continuation of their screening as substantive military helmsmen.

5. Gunmen on Monday shot dead Eze James Nnamdi, the traditional ruler of Ezuhu Nguru Nweke community in the Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State. It was gathered that the gunmen, who invaded the monarch’s palace in a Sienna car around 3 pm, were shooting sporadically before gunning down the monarch.

6. The Abia State Government says it has saved N220 million on monthly wage bills in the state, following the ongoing verification exercise in the state’s civil service. The disclosure was made by the Accountant General of the state, Deaconess Njum Onyemenam, in Umuahia on Monday after a meeting she held with Governor Alex Otti.

7. A consortium of constitutional and human right lawyers have commenced committal proceedings against the Director-General of the State Security Service (DSS), Mr. Yusuf Magaji Bichi, at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), for allegedly violating multiple judgments and orders of court directing the release of suspended Central Bank governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele from custody.

8. The Enugu State Police Command has arrested one of the suspected killers of the councillor representing Eha-Ulo Ward, Nsukka Local Government Area of the state, Nelson Sylvester. Sylvester, who was popularly known as Ofunwa, was shot dead on Sunday at his residence in the Eha-Alumonah community by gunmen suspected to be assassins.

9. Troops of the Nigerian Army, Saturday, intercepted an international smuggling syndicate while transporting a truckload of smuggled ammunition to Anambra State, Nigeria’s southeast. Army spokesperson, Onyema Nwachukwu, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

10. In an effort to ensure total implementation of the sit-at-home ban in Enugu State, Governor Peter Mbah, on Monday, toured various parts of the state capital to monitor compliance. However, some business places in the city were still shut on Monday despite the government’s threat to permanently shut businesses that refused to open in the name of observing sit-at-home.
