1. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, on Monday, lambasted Nigerian leaders, accusing most of them of being empty as far as development issues were concerned. Obasanjo made this remark in Abuja while delivering the keynote address at the public presentation of a book titled, ‘Reclaiming the Jewel of Africa,’ written by a former Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment and a Minister of Finance, Olusegun Aganga.
2. A popular native doctor in Anambra State and an indigene of Oba in the Idemili North Local Government Area of the state, Chinedu Nwangwu, popularly called “Akwa Okuko Tiwaraki” was on Sunday kidnapped by some yet-to-be-identified assailants. The state police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga who confirmed this on Monday, said an investigation is ongoing.
3. A woman identified as Dorcas Shangev has been found dead with some of her body parts missing, 24 hours after her birthday. It was learnt that the lady said to be in her 30s, who used to reside at Owner Occupier in the Makurdi metropolis, had earlier attended a burial but did not return home.
4. Contrary to reports making the rounds, the Independent National Electoral Commission on Monday said it did not receive cash support from the international development partners to conduct the 2023 general election. The INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, revealed this at a meeting with Civil Society Organisations on the review of the 2023 general election.
5. Boko Haram suspects reportedly plotting to attack the Yola, Adamawa residence of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, have been arrested. A 29-year-old suspect, Jubrila Mohammed, who confessed to being a Boko Haram member from Damboa in Borno State, was first arrested at the gate of Atiku’s residence while trying to carry out the attack at about 9pm on Sunday.
6. Civil Society Groups flooded major streets in Benin City, Edo State on Monday, to protest the recent increase in the price of petrol and nationwide hardship. The groups under the aegis of the Edo Civil Society Organisations lamented the high cost of governance exhibited by politicians, at the expense of the poor Nigerians.
7. Residents of Enugu State on Monday trooped out and marched around the streets of the state capital in protest against the continued Monday sit-at-home in the state. This came as the State Government on Monday moved around parts of the state capital and sealed businesses that continued to obey the IPOB sit-at-home.
8. The election of Mr. Ngozi Okolie of the Labour Party (LP) as a member representing the Aniocha/Oshimili Constituency of Delta State in the House of Representatives was on Monday, nullified by the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Asaba. The runner-up, Ndudi Elumelu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was declared the winner by the court.
9. Hoodlums suspected to be political thugs on Sunday, set ablaze the campaign office of the Kogi State Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate Murtala Yakubu Ajaka. The office located at John Holt Road, beside HABSO PETROLEUM LTD, Lokoja, was burnt in the early hours of Monday around 12 am.
10. The decomposing body of an unidentified woman has been found in the Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State. It was gathered that the dumped body was also without the head as of the time it was found. An eyewitness, Kinsley Alozie said the headless body was sighted around Ohiya Mechanic Village inward Abia Towers on Sunday by engineers who had gone to lay cable in the gutter they dug days earlier.
