The discussion around the safety of elevator rides in the country has, for some time and particularly in the recent past, raised concerns.
CityNews Nigeria reports the fresh incident of an elevator accident that led to the death of one medical doctor, Vwaere Diaso, at the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos State, on Tuesday has created more fear and panic among users.
Earlier, this platform learned that a Nigerian doctor with less than two weeks to complete her horsemanship died in an elevator accident.
It was gathered that the tragic incident involving the young medical doctor occurred at General Hospital Odan in Lagos Island.
In the series of social media posts by friends of the deceased, Vwaere’s elevator was said to have fallen from the 10th floor to the ground floor while she was going to pick up something from a dispatch rider outside.
It was also alleged that it took the hospital one hour before the victim’s body was evacuated and rushed to the emergency before she died.
A staff who also tweeted about the incident said the elevator was known to have had issues, and the team had made complaints about it.
Here are some safety tips when stuck in an elevator ride.
1. Stay calm; breathing exercises help calm you to know the next thing to do.
2. Find a source of light if all lights in the elevator are out. One can make use of your phone.
3. Press the alarm button to escalate the issue and draw attention to help.
4. Yell for help and place a call, if possible, with the call button in the elevator.
5. Press the “door open” button; one might be lucky occasionally. One can use the door open button to troubleshoot stuck elevators sometimes.
