1. After meeting with President Bola Tinubu where an agreement was reached to call off their protests, the rapprochement between the organised labour and the Federal Government appeared to have collapsed as the unions on Thursday night vowed to embark on a nationwide strike from August 14 if their leaders were summoned for contempt of court orders.
2. The Federal Government has directed the Chief Medical Directors and Medical Directors in the Federal Tertiary Hospitals to implement the no work, no pay policy on the striking members of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors. It also directed the hospitals to maintain an attendance register for all resident doctors willing to work.
3. The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has appointed former governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, as the new National Chairman of the party. At the APC NEC meeting, attended by President Bola Tinubu, a former Senate spokesman, Senator Ajibola Basiru, was also appointed as the APC National Secretary.
4. The Federal Ministry of Finance has ordered that all its directors who have spent eight years in the directorate cadre to tender their notices for early retirement. A memo signed by the Director of Administration of the ministry, Mariya Rufai which was dated August 3, 2023, was addressed to all directors and heads of units of the ministry.
5. President Bola Tinubu on Thursday said having worked hard and won the presidency and other elective offices, the All Progressives Congress must now focus on service delivery to Nigerians. Tinubu urged the APC leadership, particularly elected officials, to be steadfast with good governance.
6. Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has announced the appointment of 47 media aides. He made the announcement in a tweet on Thursday evening. The Governor expressed confidence that the team would serve the people effectively.
7. The new National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Ganduje, on Thursday, promised to work assiduously in ensuring the party’s victory in the November 11, 2023, governorship polls in Imo, Kogi, and Bayelsa States.
8. The Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has dispatched a delegation to Niger Republic with a mandate to expeditiously resolve the current political impasse in the country. This comes amid the 7-day deadline to restore ousted President Mohamed Bazoum and the threat to use military options to force out the junta.
9. The Defence Headquarters has said troops of the Armed Forces of Nigeria killed 36 terrorists and arrested no fewer than 163 suspected criminals and gunmen across theatres of operation in the last two weeks. The Director, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba made the disclosure at a media briefing, on Thursday in Abuja.
10. The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has denied reports making the rounds on social media that it was assembling its forces for military actions in the Republic of Niger. It said the Armed Forces of Nigeria was yet to receive any order from the appropriate authority to commence military action against the Military Junta in Niger.
