Aisha Yesufu Reacts As Army Warns They Have No Interest In Carrying Out Coup
Popular Nigerian activist, Aisha Yesufu has reacted to the Nigerian Military statement, saying that they have no interest in carrying out a coup in Nigeria.
CityNews Nigeria recalls that the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) had earlier announced that they are happy under the democratic regime, and calls for their interference with the present administration is a distraction from their primary duties.
The DHQ director, Tukur Gusau said the DHQ has no interest in an online report currently circulating about welfare issues of the armed forces of Nigeria.
Gusau added that the report in circulation is calling on the military to interfere in the democracy of the country.
He warned that the force is committed to complete subordination under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.
“The Defence Headquarters frown at a report being circulated online about welfare issues in the Armed Forces of Nigeria. The report’s call on the military to interfere in our democracy is highly unpatriotic, wicked, and an attempt to distract the Armed Forces of Nigeria from performing its constitutional responsibilities.
“The AFN under the leadership of the Chief of Defence Staff, General CG Musa is determined to ensure complete subordination of the Armed Forces to constitutional authority under His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and will not be distracted from its roles that are well defined in the 1999 constitution (as amended),” Gusau said.
Reacting to the military stance, Yesufu urged them to focus on their constitutional duty, which is protecting Nigeria.
She insisted that the judiciary has the constitutional duty to remove leaders who rig themselves into office.
Speaking via Twitter, she wrote, “Military should focus on their constitutional duty, which is protecting the territorial integrity of Nigeria.
“The judiciary has the constitutional duty to remove people who rig themselves into office while the legislature have the constitutional duty to remove incompetent leaders”.
