Former Kaduna Central lawmaker, Shehu Sani has reacted to the abduction of eight members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) travelling to their camp in Sokoto State.
CityNews Nigeria recalls that gunmen suspected to be bandits had abducted the victims along a highway in Zamfara State.
The corp memebers were kidnapped on Saturday, while traveling inside AKTC bus from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to Sokoto State en route Zamfara State, to take part in the mandatory national service when their vehicle was intercepted along a highway in Zamfara.
A source who spoke to Vanguard said, “Apart from the eight corps members, the driver of the bus was also abducted.
“The corps members were offloaded (from the bus) and taken into the bush. The police have recovered the bus.
“They left here (Uyo) on Friday, and slept over in Abuja. It was when they were proceeding to Sokoto that they were kidnapped.”
Reacting to the incident, Sani lamented that it was an avoidable tragedy.
He urged the government to do everything in its power to ensure that the victims are set free.
According to him, “The news of the abduction of Youth Corpers by terrorists along the highway in Zamfara state is unfortunate; it’s an avoidable tragedy,knowing the dangers of that road,but we now have to deal with it.Everything must be done by the Government to secure the lives and freedom of the victims.”
