1. The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 general elections, Atiku Abubakar, on Friday filed new documents against President Bola Tinubu before the Supreme Court. Atiku in the suit, accused the President of forgery and lying under oath, urging the court to disqualify and remove him from office.

2. Nobel laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka, on Friday, gave those accusing him of parading fake academic credentials 30 days to submit all their evidence to the relevant agencies for investigation. He noted that if found culpable, he would strip himself of any titles and honours he might have garnered in his career.

3. Two more suspected cultists, including 36-year-old Taofik Awolaro and 29-year-old Ojetayo Oluwaseyi, believed to have taken part in the recent four-day cult clash in the Sagamu area, have been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, made this known on Friday.

4. Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has hired renowned legal luminary, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) to lead the charge to regain his mandate at the Court of Appeal. In a copy of the notice of appeal sighted on Friday, Olanipekun, who led the legal team of President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT), is now the counsel for the Kano State Governor.

5. Abia State election petition tribunal sitting in Umuahia on Friday dismissed three grounds of prayers brought by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Okey Ahaiwe, against Governor Alex Otti.

The tribunal which delivered the Judgement at about 1:20 pm, dismissed Ahaiwe’s case for lack of merit and upheld the election of Governor Otti.

6. The Senate, on Friday, declared that it would give the anticipated new minimum wage bill from the executive arm of government swift consideration. Diket Plang, (APC, Plateau Central), Senate Committee Chairman on Employment, Labour, and Productivity, revealed this in a statement.

7. The Nigerian Army has announced the launch of a new initiative amid the rising wave of kidnapping, armed robbery and other criminal activities across the country.

Three exercises are scheduled to be conducted by the army over the next three months in the southern and northern parts of the counyry, with the North East and North West as the only exceptions.

8. The Federal High Court in Lagos, on Friday, issued a production warrant for singer/rapper Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley. The warrant, issued by Justice Nicholas Oweibo, ordered that Naira Marley be produced in court to resume his trial for alleged cybercrime-related offences.

9. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has dismissed reports alleging plans to increase the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol). In a statement posted on Friday, on its official X handle, the management of NNPCL said: “we do not have the intention to increase our PMS pump prices as widely speculated.

10. The Lagos Command of the Nigeria Police Force has announced that the auxiliary nurse, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, who injected Mohbad; his friend and fellow artiste, Ibrahim Owoduni, aka Prime Boy; and another friend, Ayobami Sadiq as some of the prime suspects in the singer’s death. The Lagos State Police Commissioner, Idowu Owohunwa, made this known while briefing the media about the ongoing investigation into the singer’s demise.
