President Bola Tinubu has filed a counter-appeal at the Supreme Court, levelling serious accusations against his political rival, Atiku Abubakar.
In the suit, President Tinubu alleged that Atiku submitted fake certificates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), casting doubts on the authenticity of the former vice president’s academic qualifications.
The allegations put forth by President Tinubu claim that Atiku used different names on two key academic certificates.
According to the president’s legal team, Atiku is said to have used the name “Atiku Kojoli” on his primary school certificate and the name “Siddiq Abubakar” on his 1965 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) certificate.
The move is in response to Atiku’s earlier suit at the Supreme Court, where he accused the president of presenting a forged certificate to INEC before the 2023 elections.
The outcome of these allegations and the ensuing legal proceedings could significantly impact the upcoming political landscape and the fate of the presidential election.
The Supreme Court is expected to play a pivotal role in adjudicating this contentious matter in the months to come.
